Research opportunity: Impact of LASPO

The Equality and Human Rights Commission is looking to commission research examining the effect of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders (LASPO) Act 2012 on those people who are no longer eligible for legal aid.

The project seeks to answer the following research questions:

  • What are the different routes that individuals take in search of justice?
  • Whether /how do those routes differ for the different issues (to be confirmed)?
  • Whether /how do those routes differ by protected characteristics or for those at higher risk of discrimination, disadvantage, harm or abuse?
  • What impact does taking these routes to justice have on individuals’ lives?

The findings of the research will be used by the Commission to inform its contribution to the Ministry of Justice review of the LASPO Act.

The Commission welcomes consortium bids, although there must be a lead organisation.

Deadline for expressions of interest is 13.00 on 14 November 2017. For more information on applying, see announcement on the procurement site or email procurementhelpdesk@equalityhumanrights.com.
